LOW-COST supermarket chain Netto is to close its Dewsbury store – and open a new £2m outlet at the nearby Ravensthorpe Shopping Park.

Netto will close its current store at Rishworth Road at the end of trading on March 26 and open the new one the following morning. All 12 staff will transfer to the new site.

There will also be a preview evening on March 26 at the new store.

Opening day entertainment will include a jazz band, a clown, free refreshments and gifts of pens and balloons. There will be special opening offers on everything from baked beans to televisions.

Netto said the new store would offer more modern facilities, including a better store layout with wider grocery aisles.

Environmentally friendly features include a system to re-use heat and emissions and a highly efficient lighting. The store is also issuing re-usable carrier bags costing 49p.

Store manager Martin Owen said: “This latest Netto supermarket is a significant retail investment for the people of Ravensthorpe and brings Netto’s UK store total to 182.

“Netto has its roots in Yorkshire and the new location represents our continued commitment to the region.”
