OUTSTANDING students received awards at the annual dinner of Huddersfield Textile Society.

President Ian Brierley, of John L Brierley Ltd, Turnbridge, welcomed 270 guests to the event at the Cedar Court Hotel, Ainley Top.

The Textile Society Yarn Medal was presented to Andrew Rose, of Spectrum Yarns at Slaithwaite, studies he has completed at the Huddersfield Textile Centre of Excellence.

Two graduates from Huddersfield University's department of design, Alison Hirst and Cheryl Lawton, won design medals.

Mr Brierley also announced that the society was offering travel bursaries for two students of the textile centre and two students from the university's design department.

The recipients will travel with textile society members to Munich, Germany, in September to attend the International Textile Machinery Exhibition.

Chief guests at the dinner included David Holdsworth, president of Halifax Textile Society, and Arthur Welham, president-elect of the Society of Dyers and Colourists.
