BUILDING bosses in Huddersfield can apply for a slice of a record £170m on training grants.
The money is being made available from August 1 by building sector skills council CITB-ConstructionSkills.
Last year, more than £12m was paid out to 2,050 employers based in Yorkshire to support staff training – yet only 31% of eligible firms made a claim. That was despite an independent survey showing that 84% of UK employers felt such grants helped them train new starters.
Janine Sibson, company development manager at ConstructionSkills in Yorkshire, said: “Smaller businesses lose thousands of pounds a year just through materials errors, skills shortages and on-site accidents – that’s why training is a must for employers of any size.”
Grants are available for areas such as traditional construction, health and safety, apprenticeship training and courses in sustainability. Employers can get grant statements online and get face-to-face guidance on how to plan training for their business.
A booklet summarising this year’s grants will be mailed to all construction employers registered with CITB-ConstructionSkills – along with information on the benefits of training and the types of support on offer. Visit www.cskills.org/grant for full details.
