MEDIA group Trinity Mirror has announced that new chairman David Grigson will take up his appointment next Tuesday.

Mr Grigson will succeed Sir Ian Gibson, who steps down on Monday.

The group, which owns the Examiner, said Mr Grigson was taking up his post earlier than previously announced to enable a smooth transition ahead of the company’s interim results announcement on August 2.

Mr Grigson was formerly chief financial officer of Reuters Group plc and before that of EMAP plc. He is chairman of Creston plc and a non-executive director of Standard Life plc and Ocado Group plc. He was previously a non-exec director of Carphone Warehouse plc.
