KIRKLEES firms with an appetite for sales have been invited to a Meet the Buyer event.

Major food and drink buyers from across the world will attend the event tomorrow at the Derbyshire Hotel, South Normanton to investigate potential suppliers of branded products from Yorkshire.

Buyers in attendance represent markets as far afield as Singapore, Malaysia and Brazil.

Mark Robson, regional international trade director for event organiser UK Trade & Investment, said: “By exporting, businesses can reduce their risks while growing their business.

“This event gives local companies a real opportunity to secure new deals and drive that growth.

“Yorkshire is internationally renowned for quality food and drink – and the 20-strong team of buyers are especially keen to see what the white rose county has to offer.

“Companies can book one-to-one meetings with these buyers so the chances to clinch sales are huge. These are major distributors with links with supermarkets and big retailers in their home countries.”

UK exports of food and drink have risen for the sixth consecutive year to reach £10.83bn – up by 11.4% on the previous year. Including alcoholic drinks, the total value of food and drink exports is £16.1bn.

Government figures show that the UK’s top export markets are Ireland, France, Holland, Germany and Spain.

They also rate Russia, China, South Africa, Turkey and India as emerging key markets for the future.
