A UNION leader claimed today he had been sacked from Network Rail’s (NR) board of public members for making allegations of bullying.

Gerry Doherty, general secretary of the Transport Salaried Staffs Association, said he will be axed from the 100-strong public membership next month.

He claimed the move was linked to a campaign his union launched earlier this year, alleging a culture of fear and bullying at the publicly-owned rail infrastructure firm.

Mr Doherty said today: "I have been trying to persuade NR to take action on this for the past year and it has been raised twice in the House of Commons this year."

NR strongly rejected the union’s claims, which it said had been fully investigated.

The company also denied Mr Doherty had been sacked, saying he has simply not completed a form saying he wants to be re-elected.
