A COMPANY with operations in Huddersfield has completed a £35m takeover.

Vivimed Labs, which has its European divisional offices and development operations at Leeds Road, Deighton, has bought pharmaceutical ingredients business Uquifa – which trades through Spanish and Mexican subsidiaries – from speciality chemicals group Yule Catto.

The deal was completed by HSBC’s international team covering Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield.

Vivimed is based in Hyderabad, India, and is quoted on the Indian Stock Exchange.

It has five manufacturing sites in India and supplies products globally through offices in Huddersfield, the USA and China.

Its activities are focused on pharmaceuticals and speciality chemicals.

In 2008, Vivimed paid £13m to buy Huddersfield-based dye manufacturer James Robinson Ltd to strengthen its European presence.

In a statement, Vivimed said acquiring Uquifa, which deals in more than 70 countries, would enable the group to further develop its product mix, broaden its customer base and expand further into Europe and Latin America.
