PROPOSALS to build offices, apartments – and a new main campus for Huddersfield Technical College – have been submitted to Kirklees Council.

Developers of the Waterfront Quarter scheme have submitted a revised planning application for the triangle of land between Manchester Road, Chapel Hill and the river Colne.

The scheme will go on show to the public next week – from 10.30am to 5.30pm on Monday in the Reception Room at Huddersfield Town Hall and between the same times on Tuesday at the technical college’s New North Road campus.

Members of the public and interested parties will be able to view the plans and discuss them with representatives from the college and the developers.

There will also be comment sheets for people to register views which will then be submitted with the plans to Kirklees Council.

The £150m Waterfront Quarter is being proposed for an eight-acres currently occupied by Sellers Engineering Ltd and Kirklees Council.

Lead developer Strategic Sites, based at Wetherby, is working with Sellers’ development arm Ramsden and Colne Developments on the mixed-use project, which will include flats offices and a new campus for the college to replace its current facilities at New North Road.

The scheme will also incorporate a stretch of Huddersfield Narrow Canal .

Sellers plans to move to a new site to make way for the Waterfront scheme.
