TOURISM businesses in Huddersfield have been urged to bid for top awards.

Regional tourism organisation Welcome to Yorkshire is inviting nominations for the White Rose Awards 2011.

The awards – billed as the Oscars of the tourism industry – will be presented at a glittering black-tie ceremony.

Awards in 16 categories are up for grabs – while the winners also get the chance to compete on a national scale in the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2012.

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “It’s been an amazing start to the season with many businesses telling us they are taking more bookings than last year.

“The White Rose Awards recognise businesses aiming for excellence and are proud to offer visitors to Yorkshire that something extra special.”

Categories include bed and breakfast or guest accommodation, business tourism, hotels and pubs, visitor attractions, outstanding customer service and sustainable tourism.
