REGIONAL development agency Yorkshire Forward has won two national awards.

The agency was among the winners at the National Council for Work Experience Awards 2010, which were announced during a ceremony at Merchant Taylors’ Hall in London.

Gordon McKenzie, director for the office for graduate opportunities for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills presented 23 NCWE Awards to winners in 11 categories – rewarding companies that have demonstrated exceptional work placements.

Yorkshire Forward was highly commended in two categories – public sector and over 250 employees with long-term placements employing less than 20 students.

Heather Collier, director of the NCWE, said: “We’re now in the seventh year of the awards and their increasing popularity reflects the growing importance of work experience in allowing students to develop skills while providing companies a talent pool for recruitment.

“With more companies competing than ever before, our winners have done exceptionally well.”

Beverley Connor, assistant director for human resources at Yorkshire Forward, said: “I’m delighted that the NCWE has recognised Yorkshire Forward’s undergraduate scheme at its annual awards.

“We are committed to the life-long learning of all individuals living and working in Yorkshire and Humber and this scheme gives undergraduates real hands-on experience of working life and allows them to get involved in developments that are really shaping the future of their region.”
