Police are investigating a suspected firearms incident in Deighton overnight.

Officers were called to Chestnut Street just after 1am to reports of gun shots.

The road has been sealed off between Riddings Road and Sheepridge Road and there are several police vehicles on the scene.

It is understood the road is going to be closed for several hours while investigations are launched.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said that officers would remain on the scene for "quite some time."

Forensic teams were due to attend in daylight in order to carry out fingertip searches of the area.

The spokesman said police were investigating reports of a "firearms discharge" and that no one had been hurt.
