The deadline to enter next year’s Mrs Sunderland Festival is Saturday.

Organisers wanted to give people a final reminder that they must act immediately if they want to compete in the famous event.

Meanwhile, Huddersfield firm Syngenta has announced that the company is to support the inaugural The Battle of the Bands contest at the festival for the next three years.

The Battle of the Bands is a new venture for the 126-year-old music competition, which has previously focused more on classical music.

Organisers are keen to demonstrate that the festival covers all genres of music, speech and drama, and appeals to all generations.

The Battle of the Bands will encompass all genres: pop, rock, reggae, hip-hop and any other music produced by a band. Original material is very much encouraged.

One of the aims of the Mrs Sunderland is to make a professional performance experience available to amateur performers. With The Battle of the Bands contest, this will include sound checks with professional sound engineers at the Town Hall which will have sound systems identical to those used by professional bands.

The plan is to make an ‘X-Factor’ experience available to the bands and audience alike and the winner will be decided by a combination of professional adjudicator and audience reaction. Organisers hope it will be a night to remember.

The Mrs Sunderland Festival runs from February 19 to 28, 2015, at Huddersfield Town Hall.
