A Christmas poem from our friends at Holmfirth Police Station

Twas the night before Christmas
and at Holmfirth Nick
The Bobbies were busy,
Every Dave, Sue and Rick

There were calls about drivers
Who’d drunk too much booze
Why not get a taxi
When there’s so much to loose?

There were calls from the lonely
Sad at this time of year
They just wanted to talk
And for someone to hear

There were calls from families
Who were feeling the strain
Arguments and fights
Causing heartache and pain

There were calls from people
Who want it to end
They just couldn’t cope
And needed a friend

There were calls from the pubs
With the drink in full flow
Time Gentleman, please!
Home time, let’s go

We’ll be there through the night,
Fighting crime, have no fear
And on Christmas Day
We’ll also be here

Have fun this Christmas
Peace and joy to you all
And if you do need us
We’ll answer your call

Happy Christmas, everyone!

Do you reckon this will catch on? A crematorium is believed to be the first in the UK to secure an alcohol licence.

Westerleigh Crematorium has been granted the licence ahead of the opening of a new hospitality suite and cafe in February.

Building began in May for the new centre, along with a second chapel, at the 23-acre site near Bristol.

The cafe, serving regular customers as well as mourners, enjoys views across a wildlife pond. Function rooms will offer bars and space for families to hold a “quiet, dignified wake” following a funeral, the crematorium said.

One to watch out for if you’re heading for the M62 Westbound. There are reports of drivers being taken off the motorway around Junction 28 Tingley and 27 at Birstall because of debris in the road. Ten minute delays at the moment.

Kate and Gerry McCann “have not lost hope” of finding their daughter Madeleine, the couple said in a heartfelt Christmas message to supporters.

In a year where they were forced to shut the official Find Madeleine appeal’s Twitter account because of persistent online abuse, the couple also thanked the public for their “amazing support.”

They also welcomed the “progress” of the Metropolitan Police investigation Operation Grange to trace their daughter, saying it was “moving in the right direction” despite the inquiry being scaled back in 2015.

Three-year-old Madeleine McCann disappeared from the family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal in May 2007.

In a statement posted to their website and the appeal’s official Facebook page, the couple said: “Merry Christmas to all our supporters.

“Your compassion and help has once again spurred us on through another year and never fails to astound us. We really appreciate how lucky we are to have such amazing support behind us. Thank you.”

The couple, whose daughter would have turned 12 this year, added: “It is our ninth Christmas without Madeleine. As always, she is very much on our mind and in our hearts and Christmas preparations.

“We have not lost hope that we may get to celebrate another Christmas with her.”

Have they ever been seen in the same room?

Here’s the proof that Huddersfield Town head coach David Wagner and the club’s commercial director Sean Jarvis are peas from the same pod.

Confusion reigned when a national newspaper published Sean’s picture claiming it was the new Town coach.

Both gents can see the funny side and the resemblance is uncanny.

David is on the left...or maybe the right.

Local News:

Brake, the road safety charity, has expressed disappointment with the Department for Transport’s newly-published ‘Road Safety Statement’ (replacing its previous Road Safety Strategy).

Despite calls by Brake and across the road safety sector for stronger leadership from government on preventing devastating road death and injuries following a recent increase in casualties, the Statement fails to include casualty reduction targets or a ‘vision zero’, which would make clear that the ultimate goal is to reduce deaths to zero.

International evidence indicates that targets help to spur progress in road safety , and increasing governments and authorities (including Sweden, Scotland and London) are adopting vision zero approaches.
