If you’re heading home from Bradford, we’ve got reports in of heavy traffic on the M606 southbound. The traffic is between junction 3 Rooley Avenue and junction 2 Euroway Trading Estates.

Crime

Child sex offenders from Huddersfield and Dewsbury have been today jailed for a total of 26 years following a major child sex ring investigation led by West Yorkshire Police.

Andrew Charles Lynes, 51, of Deighton Road and James Bould, 35, formerly of Dewsbury, were sentenced to 12 and a half years and 14 years respectively at Leeds Crown Court today for a number of sexual offences.

Bould pleaded guilty to to eight offences including sexual activity with a child, causing a child to engage in sexual activity, distributing indecent photographs of a child and making indecent photographs of a child.

Lynes admitted 11 offences including sexual activity with a child, paying for the sexual services of a child and taking indecent pictures of children.

West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commisioner Mark Burns-Williamson said: “This case highlights the complexity of the networks behind these types of serious sexual abuse cases and the need to ensure the right skills and resources are made available for West Yorkshire Police to tackle offenders who are involved in such crimes.”

It looks very busy on the local roads tonight. Busy on Cooper Bridge Road, Manchester Road and the A629 Calderdale Way in both directions. We also have slow traffic on Oxford Street outbound at Castlegate and the A644 Wakefield Road heading into Brighouse.

The hunt is on for a Fixby woman convicted of people trafficking.

Disgraced lawyer Nisa Ul Haq was released on bail after being found guilty of the crimes in December, but later failed to show up in court. A warrant is out for her arrest.

During the Allied advance through France into Germany in the final months of World War Two Linthwaite soldier Harry Wimpenny picked up a German revolver.

It was a war souvenir he never brought home. For on the boat journey back to England after the fighting had finished he threw it into the Channel in a symbolic gesture. You can see more here.

West Yorkshire Police is staging a high-profile weapons surrender which runs until Saturday.



People are being invited to hand in any weapons they hold, including firearms, ammunition, knives and offensive weapons.

The initiative aims to avoid weapons getting into the wrong hands and provide members of the community with a safe place to dispose of them.

The family of 68-year-old June Parkes said they saw “justice done” after a coroner claimed she would have survived had a necessary hospital transfer taken place sooner. There is more here.

Contractiors are at the scene assessing the damage.



But problems are now easing on the A1 southbound following the accident involving two HGVs between junctions 36 and 35. Both vehicles have been recovered and all lanes reopened.

Road management work is being carried out, meaning one of the four lanes is closed eastbound between junctions 25 and 26 (Chain Bar).
