Strange goings-on on the M62!

Rail commuters are set to be turfed out of a Mirfield town centre car park.

Kirklees Council’s Station Road car park is clogged all day with commuters and town centre workers, meaning there are few spaces for shoppers.

Now council chiefs are set to impose a three-hour maximum stay freeing up spaces for people wanting to pop to the shops.

A thug who pulling a terrified taxi driver out of his vehicle before beating him in a drunken rage narrowly escaped jail today.

Paul Knell, 28, of Brown Royd Avenue, Rawthorpe, turned aggressive after 47-year-old cabbie, Muhammed Naeem, locked him in the vehicle following a row over the fare last year.

What's on

A table top sale in aid of the Calderdale Floods appeal will be hosted tomorrow at Southgate Methodist Church in Elland.

There will be stalls selling gifts as well as face painting and a raffle.

The sale is from 10am until 2pm for anyone wishing to help the appeal.

Brighouse baker Lee Blackwell has been jailed after police found 34,000 child abuse images on his computer.

Blackwell was arrested after police were tipped off by officers in Canada investigating the worldwide sale of DVDs.

A second new helicopter is on the cards for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The service is currently replacing the first aircraft, and has now unveiled plans for a second. The new helicopters will have more cabin space and up to date equipment for treating patients.

He joined the board in December 2008, having assisted chairman Dean Hoyle when he bought into Town, while working for accountants Grant Thornton. There is more here.

More on the Syngenta story. Bosses at the giant Syngenta plant in Huddersfield have welcomed news of a huge buyout deal.

And they insist the offer from a Chinese company is good news for the firm, with no job losses likely.

Boxing novices have been trading blows in preparation for fight night.

And the 26 have-a-go puglists have been receiving expert tuition at Kane Academy martial arts gym, Marsh.

The wannabe boxers will undergo eight weeks of training before the big fight, organised by White Collar Gladiators, at Huddersfield Leisure Centre, on March 5. You can see more here.

Still some delays on the M62 westbound caused by a broken down vehicle.

The lorry is between junction 26 (Chain Bar) and junction 25 (Brighouse), and one lane has been closed.

Advance Warning - Service suspended on First Transpennine Express between Liverpool Lime Street and Huddersfield due to engineering works.


No First TransPennine Express trains run to/from Liverpool or through Manchester Victoria all weekend. Trains will instead run between Manchester Piccadilly and West Yorkshire.

From 6 to 7 February.

Syngenta, which has a huge base in Huddersfield, is at the centre of what could be one of the world’s biggest takeover deals.

Chinese firm ChemChina wants to take over the firm in a £30billion deal.

He has voiced concerns over the growing influence of China in world trade.

She has been playing the organ since she was 15 years old and has played at more than 100 venues.
