On the blog today we’ve had all the happenings to mark what would have been Harold Wilson’s 100th birthday, a dash cam video of a runaway van crashing in Birchencliffe and news of a knife attack in the early hours at the Asda supermarket in Dewsbury.

If you haven’t seen it yet watch this dash cam video of the driverless van crashing in Halifax Road and listen out for the reaction of the driver in a car behind when she finds out there’s no one at the wheel!

That’s all from the blog for this week but next week watch out for the Examiner’s Save Huddersfield A&E Battle Bus. Read all about it here. It’s going to be HUGE!

Heavy traffic on M62

Just a warning that the M62 is heavier than usual Westbound between Junction 19 (Heywood) and junction 18 at Simister Island. No particular reason other than volume of traffic apparently.

As we all get excited for the big finale of Happy Valley on Tuesday, Sarah Lancashire has confirmed on Twitter there WILL be a third series. Let’s hope they don’t make us wait as long as they did between Series 1 and 2!

Hello everybody. Martin here. The weekend’s almost here!

That’s all from me. Martin will be with you for the next hour...

News

Here is the most most read story on our website at the moment:

Motorists had a lucky escape after a ‘runaway’ lorry crashed on a busy main road.

The vehicle – apparently without a driver at the wheel – is captured on dash cam footage trundling down Halifax Road, Birchencliffe, during the evening rush hour.

The lorry is seen starting to wobble as it approaches a bend before bouncing into the kerb and coming to a stop at the side of the road.

News

Police are appealing for information after thieves pick-pocketed a 68-year-old woman outside the Halifax Bank on Market Street in Huddersfield.

The victim was approached by a man and woman outside the bank at around 9.50am on Monday, March 7. The man asked her for directions and after the pair had gone, the victim realised that the money she had just withdrawn from the bank had been stolen from her handbag.

The suspects are both described as being in their 30s with dark hair. The man spoke with broken English.

A police spokesman said: “This was a dreadful incident where suspects stole money from a pensioner causing a great deal of distress. A similar incident happened on 1 March, when thieves pick-pocketed an 82-year-old man at Huddersfield bus station. It is possible that the suspects are the same and we need to identify these people before they carry out any further offences.”

Anyone who can identify the suspects or who has any information should contact Huddersfield police via 101 quoting reference 13160100315 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Traffic

There was a crash in Penistone Road, Shepley, this morning.

But happily the only damage was to the vehicles, and no-one was injured.

The phone was later returned to the victim, who suffers from a degenerative disorder, following a Facebook appeal by a DJ. You can see more here.

Traffic

Happily, things are getting back to normal on the M62.

All lanes have reopened on the westbound stretch between junction 24 (Ainley Top) and junction 22.

A broken down vehicle had been causing an obstruction, leading to one lane and the hard shoulder being closed.

But the vehicle has now been removed and traffic is returning to normal.
