Work on clearing a massive site in Huddersfield is progressing well.
Contractors working for South Yorkshire-based Demex have flattened several buildings off Old Leeds Road as part of the huge contract.
Their work to bring down the former Huddersfield Sports Centre is not expected to start until after the Easter holidays.

Traffic
Reports of Huddersfield Road between Berry Brow and Honley closed with slow traffic due to an accident at A6024 Woodhead Road.
M62
Earlier traffic on the M62 between Ainley Top and Rishworth Moor has been cleared after a broken down vehicle has been removed.
Birkby crash
Police have revealed a victim of last week’s Birkby crash was heavily pregnant and has sadly lost her unborn child.
The 24-year-old is in a serious condition and being treated in Leeds General Infirmary.
Police are appealing for information from any witnesses after the collision between a blue Vauxhall Corsa and Silver Ford Focus took place on the junction between Blacker Road and St John’s Road on Thursday evening.
The driver of the Vauxhall Corsa a 24-year-old woman sustained minor injuries and two child passengers (also in the Corsa) were left with minor injuries.
Three men aged 24, 29 and 35 were been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and have been released on police bail.

The talk was part of the Huddersfield Literature Festival.

Reports of traffic on the M62 westbound near the Lofthouse junction for the M1 if you’re coming from over that way. One lane blocked due to debris in the road, traffic coping well.
Crime
Police are appealing for any witnesses after an ice cream man was attacked outside a school in Birkby.
The vendor suffered minor injuries in the attack outside St Patrick’s School on George Avenue yesterday afternoon.

The Olde Hatte, one of Huddersfield’s best-known pubs is due to shut for a fortnight from March 29 so a £100,000 refurbishment can take place.
The pub is situated just yards from Huddersfield Bus Station.

The Rotary Club of Sowerby Bridge’s (RCoSB) third annual Classic Bike and Scooter Show promises to be bigger and better than before.
The date for the diary is Sunday, May 29th 2016, from 11am until 4pm (late spring bank holiday Sunday), and the location is at The Wharf, Sowerby Bridge, HX6 2AG.
Classic Bikes and Scooters on display together with lots of exciting attractions with food and refreshment stalls for a family day out coupled with pre 1980’s Bike nostalgia.
There will be a free cinema showing bike films with children’s screenings as well.
All visitors can take part in judging the bikes with prize giving at 3pm by the Mayor of Calderdale.
Meet visiting personalities from the ‘World of Classic Biking’ during the day. Also view the modern day Super and Road bikes belonging to the biker visitors to the Show.

An in-debt hospital trust would need an extra £92m to return Huddersfield Royal Infirmary to a satisfactory condition.
The hospital, which currently houses Huddersfield’s A&E, is in a ‘poor condition’ which would cost £92.4m to fix, trust bosses have said. You can see more here.

More news on the road accident in Kirkheaton this morning.
Police say a collision occurred at about 8.50am in Kirkheaton on Highgate Lane at the junction with Cockley Hill Lane. A car ended up in a field, as a result.
The council has been informed and is dealing with the incident, and it is not thought anyone was seriously hurt.
Police are urging drivers to take extra care as some road surfaces are slippery.
Traffic
It’s been a steady rush hour out on the roads this morning with no major problems.
It’s still busy on the A629 Calderdale Way westbound in Elland.
And there is heavy traffic on the A641 Huddersfield Road outbound in Brighouse, but apart from that it seems fairly quiet.
