Police are appealing for information following a suspicious incident involving a 12-year-old boy in the Sheepridge area of Huddersfield on Sunday.

The boy was on Ashbrow Road at approximately 8.30pm when he was approached by a man who pulled him in to an alleyway which leads onto Central Avenue. The boy screamed, causing the man to let him go. The man then ran off towards Central Avenue.

The man is described as Asian, around 30-years-old, 5ft 6ins tall, with brown hair and a fringe. He was wearing a dark blue coat, black trousers and a scarf which was covering half of his face.

De Sgt Adrian Belle, of Kirklees District CID, said: “While we understand that this incident may cause some concern in the wider community, we would stress that this appears to be an isolated incident and the motives behind this man’s actions are unclear.

“We would urge anyone who has witnessed any part of this incident or with any other information which could help our ongoing enquiries to please call Kirklees CID via 101.

“Similarly, we would urge this man to come forward to help us establish what has taken place.”

All lanes are now reopen on the M62 and the broken down van, which had led to one lane being closed, has been removed.

The incident happened on the westbound carriageway between junction 27 (Gildersome) and junction 26 (Chain Bar).

Traffic has now returned to normal.

The trust which runs Huddersfield and Calderdale’s hospitals had one of the highest rates of unexpected deaths in England.

Happily the earlier congestion on the M62 seems to have eased and traffic has returned to normal on the eastbound stretch around junction 24 (Ainley Top).

Elsewhere, Huddersfield Road in Brighouse is busy but moving at the Bethel Street junction.

And it’s a similar story on the A629 Calderdale Way in Elland westbound between the A6025 Halifax Road junction and the A6026 Wakefield Road junction.

A fire broke out in a cellar at a property in Taylor Hill, Huddersfield.

The small blaze caused damage to the electricity distribution board, and smoke damage to the rest of the room.

A couple and their two children who were in the property, at Fairlea Cottages, off Taylor Hill Road, escaped unhurt after being alerted by a smoke alarm. Firefighters were able to quickly deal with the incident, which happened just before 8pm last night.
