Magician and former Huddersfield student Adam Patel is taking his unique brand of magic to the Cannes Film Festival.
“Besides magic, film is one of my other huge passions,” said Adam. “So it’s an honour and a privilege to have the opportunity to perform at one of the most exclusive film industry events in the world.”
While Hollywood stars walk the red carpet, Dewsbury-based Adam - who himself is mid-way through filming a television show focusing on his magic - will be bending minds at evening events held throughout the festival, although his appearance in Cannes is not connected to the filming of the TV show.
Firefighters have warned people to beware how they store rechargeable batteries after a freak blaze.
Crews tackled a blaze at a high-rise flat in Wakefield.
And when an investigation was carried out into the cause investigators found that rechargeable batteries had been stored with metal items.
Fire investigator Ian Firth said: “This fire simply comes down to the way in which the batteries were being stored. It’s quite likely that not many people are aware this can happen.
“If the terminals of a rechargeable lithium-ion battery short together after coming into contact with metal, albeit even a coin or a keyring, the battery can heat up and cause ignition of surrounding combustible items.”
Mr Firth recommended a purpose-made storage case.
Huddersfield Town skipper Mark Hudson has apologised for the club’s miserable end to the Championship season.
Town conceded nine goals in the last two games including a 5-1 defeat at home to Brentford.
And Hudson admitted: “The last two games have not been good enough, and I apologise to everyone. You don’t want to finish the way we did.
“It is disappointing to be beaten like we were in the last two games.”
Centre-back Hudson has just signed a new three-year contract which will lead to a move into coaching.
Huddersfield Giants’ Ladbrokes Challenge Cup quarter-final clash with Wakefield Trinity Wildcats has been chosen for Sky TV and will be played on Thursday June 23 (8pm) at the John Smith’s Stadium. Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday.
All four ties are live on TV. All the details are here.
This is the latest movie to be filmed around Huddersfield.
Seizure is a horror film that is about to be taken off to the Cannes Film Festival by Huddersfield film-makers Jamie Cymbal and Ryan Simons.
Filming took place in secret locations in Slaithwaite and Holmfirth - one location was an old farm - and Jamie and Ryan will show their trailer to sales agents hoping to secure a distribution deal.
Have a look at the trailer. It seems to be a lot more than your average horror movie.
Sir Patrick Stewart has revealed a secret ambition - to appear on Strictly Come Dancing.
The Mirfield-born Hollywood star, who has played roles from Shakespeare to Star Trek, had long wanted to don the sequins and slacks.
But now, at the age of 75, he reckons it’s “too late” to take to the celebrity dance floor.
Bet Strictly bosses are kicking themselves now!

Olivia died aged 15 after she was found hanging from a tree in Armitage Bridge.
