A man was stabbed by a teenager in a street attack in Dalton.

Detectives are investigating an attack on Brown Royd Avenue between 2.50pm and 3.05pm last Thursday.

Police said the nasty attack was sparked after the victim’s friend, who was waiting in the street, was surrounded by a group of three youths, some of which are thought to be as young as 15.

They said a fourth male, who was standing on the opposite side of the road, got involved as the victim came to help with the confrontation.

After an argument the fourth male has produced a knife and stabbed the man in the stomach.

The 20-year-old victim fled the scene and was later treated in hospital for the injury.

Police described the injury as a “small wound” and the man was discharged later that day.

The knifeman is described as either a light-skinned black male or mixed race, around 15 to 16-years-old, short, skinny with short, cropped black hair.

The other suspects were described as black, with two believed to be 16 or under and skinny.

Dc Craig Foulkes of Huddersfield CID, said: “This was an unusual incident in which it was fortunate the victim was not more seriously injured.

“We are currently investigating to see what the motive may be behind this attack and would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened or can help identify the suspects.

“Anyone who has information is asked to contact Huddersfield CID on 101 or CrimeStoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.”
