Kirklees Council criticised for £18,000 spend on clock gilding when others don’t work

Kirklees Council spent £18,000 on repairs to Dewsbury Town Hall clock

Clr John Lawson, Cleckheaton Lib Dem, asked for the full cost and sought a break-down of the cost of the clock’s gold leaf.

Clr Sheard was unable to break the cost down, but said: “I’m told the cost is £18,000 for the clock, we can’t pull out the gilding separately, but the spindles and the gilding was £5,000.”

He added: There’s no money for Heckmondwike.

“We haven’t got the brass at the moment.”
