Speaking of motorway trouble...

The smart motorway project on the M60 and M62 has been delayed - which means the much-maligned 50mph limit will be in place on some stretches of road until next summer.

Highways bosses have admitted that the roadworks, originally due for completion in December, will take longer than promised.

October 2017: Removal of temporary narrow lanes

December 2017: End of 50mph speed limit, new variable speed limit signs switched on.

Extra lanes converted from hard shoulder due to open in time for the Christmas getaway – ‘increasing capacity on the stretch of motorway between Greater Manchester and Yorkshire by a third’.
