Popular trials head into second century

HUNDREDS of sheepdogs will take part in an annual competition in the Holme Valley. And it is heading into a second century. The 101st Harden Moss Sheepdog Trials will take place from June 22 to 24. Hundreds of spectators attend the annual event at land off Greenfield Road outside Holmfirth. More than 200 working dogs will take part in the trials, which will include the open class, double dogs, local handlers and young handlers. There will also be a fell race, stick-making demonstrations, drystone walling, a bar, stalls and a vintage tractor display. Skelmanthorpe B Band will perform at the event on Sunday, June 24. Admission is free for children and £5 for adults on the Saturday and the Sunday trials. Spectators on Friday, June 22 are asked to make a donation to charity in place of an entrance fee.
