THOUSANDS of drivers are flouting parking tickets in Huddersfield.

A new study shows that 3,173 motorists simply didn’t bother paying tickets issued by parking wardens on the streets of Kirklees.

And that cost Kirklees Council almost £¼m in lost revenue.

The actual costs will be much higher as the figures revealed by the council only take into account on-street parking, and not car parks such as Springwood and St Andrew’s Road.

The council’s wardens dished out almost 21,000 parking tickets last year with fines of either £50 or £70 depending on the offence.
