Members of the Greater Elland Historical Society have celebrated their 40th birthday.

And what better way to celebrate than with a specially-made birthday cake.

The Society, which helps raise awareness of the town’s heritage and researches its history, has around 100 members.

They welcomed Mayor of Calderdale, Clr Pat Allen, who is also an Elland ward member, to cut the cake at the celebratory meeting at Elland Working Men’s Club.

Society chairman Tim Patterson showed a powerpoint presentation about GEHS’ history while Loraine Lodge devised a 1974 quiz, plus there was 70s clippings of local news to jog memories.

The cake was made by Elland cake baker Lippylicious.

The Society membership meets on the second Wednesday of every month, throughout the year at Elland WMC. Visit www.gehs.org.uk for more.
