YOUR article “Villagers on path to their greenway” (Examiner April 3) caught my attention.

It’s heartening that the old trackbed of the Lockwood to Meltham branch line is being brought back into use for walkers and cyclists. The trouble is that “workers are clearing tree, laying tarmacadam and strengthening bridges”. Forgive me, but this doesn’t sound like a “greenway” but a new road. Is it too late to suggest another use for the old railway line. How about a new railway line? This would tick all the boxes as we all strive for greenness and reduced carbon. With luck the insanely busy Meltham road would then become a quiet country lane, suitable for walkers and cyclists.
