ADULT learners gathered at Huddersfield Town Hall for a special awards ceremony.

Kirklees Council organised the event to commemorate Adult Learners’ Week, a national event which inspires people to take up adult learning either to gain new skills or to learn for fun.

Winners of the Community Adult Learning Awards 2011 were:

Most Determined Learner –

Elizabeth Sykes, Dawn Hellawell and Cath Ball;

Skills for Life - Simon Rose;

Most Significant Contribution to the Community - Trevor Haigh and Janet Siddall;

Senior Learner - Esme Dakin;

Supporting Others – Firzana Sffad, Jonny Douthwaite and Darren Earnshaw;

Information, Advice & Guidance – Richard Taylor;

Access to Higher Education – Jade Travis

Return to Learning – Katie Crawshaw, Angela Heathcote and Jay Micklethwaite

Most Significant Progression – John Crawshaw, Patricia Jennings and John Simpson;

Lifetime Achievement Award for Services to Community Learning – Denis Grainger (nominated by Netherhall Learning Campus & chairman of Kirklees Adult Learning Partnership);

Molly Spedding Award – Stella Visona;

Mary Fellows Award – Sarah O’Malley.
