MOLDGREEN were brought back down to earth with a bang after last week’s excellent performance.

They were up against a much bigger and more powerful Meltham team who did not take long to get into their stride down the slope at Standiforth.

Containment was the key, but once Meltham got on a roll, this proved impossible.

At half time Moldgreen were losing 22-0 but must have felt that coming down the slope all was not lost.

After a positive start to the second half, Moldgreen conceded a try against the run of play and this seemed to knock the stuffing out of them and heads began to drop.

With 10 minutes left, they did gain a little self-belief and started to take the game to Meltham with some strong running and decent ball handling.

This led to Jared Simpson racing over in the corner after picking the ball up in his own half.

Hooker Jack Bates then sneaked over after good work close to the line.

Both tries came a little too late for Moldgreen in what was a disappointing game – but one which the boys will need to learn from before their next fixture this weekend.
