PUPILS at a Hipperholme school have their work on show in an art gallery.

Hipperholme Grammar School were invited to submit pupils’ work for show at Smith Gallery in Brighouse.

The exhibition, entitled Young Brilliance, runs at the gallery which is part of the town’s library.

A selection of work by Year 7 pupils has been submitted, inspired by the artist Gustav Klimt, which includes mixed-media collages and paintings as well as a variety of ceramic crown tiles to add some sparkle to the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations.

Also on show are surrealist paintings by Year 10 students Aleena Akbar, Natalie Angus, George King, Abigail Phillips, Harrison Hirst, Lucy Wilson and Kloe Wilkinson.

These imaginary compositions were influenced by their visit to the Liverpool Tate Gallery earlier in the year to see an exhibition of Rene Magritte’s work.

Alison Rees, head of art, explained: “It is a wonderful experience for the students to see their own artwork exhibited and viewed by the public at a local gallery.

“I hope this will inspire them to further develop their creative talent.”

The students’ sketchbooks are also on display as visual documents describing their personal creative journey into surrealism.

The exhibition runs until Saturday, July 28 and is open to the wider public.
