FOUR-year-old Theo dresses like a superhero but his inspirational courage and determination to just get on with life despite his serious medical condition puts other superheroes in the shade.

The Outlane youngster was diagnosed with a rare bowel condition that means he is allergic to food so he receives his nutrition intravenously through tubes leading to a backpack which feeds him 22 hours a day.

It’s meant he has had to go through endless operations, procedures, hospital stays and appointments. Last year he spent a total of 20 weeks in hospital with his dedicated parents, Verity and Nathan, always by his side and they have also greatly raised the profile of the Toy Appeal at Calderdale Royal Hospital.

His mum said: “We’re all in shock. It’s an amazing night and we are stunned that Theo has won.

“He has been chattering about it all day and has been so looking forward to it. It is an unpredictable condition and he will have to go back into hospital soon, but he is our little hero.”

The littlest guest of the night came over all shy as the award was presented on stage but he did manage a smile when he was handed a signed book by his TV hero, chef Jamie Oliver, as he loves cookery programmes.

The other nominees are David Joy, James Duckett, Allan Butters and Bill Robinson and the category was sponsored by V&A Bell Brown.
