A SPECIAL memorial has been unveiled to a young football fan.

Andrew Raine, 31, who died earlier this year, was a regular supporter of Berry Brow AFC at their soccer matches.

The young disabled man, who lived in Meltham, used to attend a day centre in Honley and now a special bench has been erected outside the village hall, bearing an inscribed plaque.

The funds were raised by players and officials from Berry Brow, along with customers at the Monkey Club in Armitage Bridge, which is the soccer team’s base.

They raised money to pay for the bench, a gazebo, garden furniture and a camera to be used by people visiting the centre.

Centre manager Julie Plenty said: “Andrew was very popular here and he certainly loved his football.

“The bench has been handmade and makes a great feature at the centre.”
