A BIRKBY playgroup has been given a makeover after completion of an extensive refurbishment at its base in St Cuthbert’s Church.

The Linden Playgroup which has stayed put in the building throughout the lengthy church development has had to cope with many disruptions to see the building repaired.

But now the first phase of the church repairs has finished, dedicated nursery staff and their partners gave up their Easter holidays to paint the three rooms and toilets and lay carpet and flooring in the rooms.

Manager Sam Webster told the Examiner: “We lost our outside space with the church refurbishment which was the biggest change for us so we were taking the children out more on nature walks and things.

“We had been fundraising to pay for the materials to up date the nursery and it was a real team effort in the holidays to get the work done.”

Sam praised local businesses who had kindly donated prizes for a Bingo night held on Saturday which raised £127.60 towards the refurbishment.
