Meltham started strongly after the interval with Elliot Clemson, Aidan Egdell and Jacob Green making strong runs.

But West Bowling stood firm and then increased their lead.

Hillsborough Hawks 4 Meltham All Blacks 42

A powerful Elliot Morris run gave Meltham an early lead and their powerful back kept the hosts on the back foot.

A slippery ball made handling difficult and over-eagerness spoiled promising moves before Jacob Green crossed. Solid defence kept Hawks in check.

Oliver Kirk slid over and just before the interval, expansive play brought Meltham another well-deserved try.

To their credit, Hawks shot out of the blocks after the break and scored a try in the corner.

In the face of mounting pressure, Josh Holmes, Elliot Clemson, Macauley Bywater, Joey Blackwell and the tenacious Scott Gledhill put in telling tackles before Meltham took total control.

Receiving a neat pass from Jack Thackeray, Danny Hirst raced under the posts and Jack Thackeray scored an excellent solo try. Elliot Morris took full advantage of a tiring defence to bag a brace.

This was Meltham’s best all-round performance of the season. MOM: Scott Gledhill
