A PIECE of Honley history disappeared last week as demolition workers moved in to take down an old concrete platform by the village bridge.
Express & Chronicle reader Peter Marshall, who alerted us to the work, said:
“It was erected decades ago to allow the coke from the adjacent gasworks to cool.
“The depot was formerly Honley gasworks and electricity generating station.
“It was removed to permit access to the collapsed wall of the River Holme.
“The collapse has revealed former cables and pipes from the old works,” he added.
