A TOWN will be transformed as it steps back to the 1940s.

Brighouse is likely to attract crowds of thousands as the town welcomes a Spitfire flypast from a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight as part of the fun and frivolity.

Organisers are putting the finishing touches to a packed programme of events, which run over the Bank Holiday weekend from May 30 to June 2.

It gets underway on the Thursday with a 40s themed film night at the Civic Hall.

Then on Friday the Boo Booby Doo Burlesque and Cabaret show takes place, with the dancers swapping their usual ball gowns and evening dresses for traditional 1940s attire and encouraging their guests to follow suit.

The Boo Booby Doo Crew are Rebecca and Amanda Sedgewick and Heidi Holdsworth, who bring some of the top burlesque dancers together on stage.

Saturday will see the town centre packed, with street entertainment and performers at local venues.

There will be singers, dancers, a Cine News Reel Film Show and performances from children at Lightcliffe School and Fixby WI Choir.

There’s an old-style variety show, swing dance and Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band will perform a concert.

On the Sunday, the final day of 40s weekend, there will be a Remembrance Service in the town centre with a flypast by Spitfire from Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

Brighouse town centre shops will also get involved and there is a vintage market.

The 40s weekend is organised by the Brighouse Business Initiative, a group of retailers who organise events in Brighouse town centre to encourage people to shop locally and get involved in their local town.
