Budding writers’ passions were inflamed at Colne Valley High School when they entered a writing competition to win a Kindle Fire.

Several key stage three students and those in the school’s creative writing club entered the chapter writing contest, which was created to encourage students into reading and writing.

Year eight student, Evie Parkes, was crowned winner of the prize after judges voted her new chapter for a book she had read as the best in the class, beating entries from North Halifax Grammar, Hipperholme and Lightcliffe, Moor End High School and Honley High School.

Other students Leah Illingworth, Joseph Greaves, Ned Hindle, Jasmin Lockwood, Logan Shepherd and Joshua Robinson were each presented with a certificate of achievement and an Easter egg after being shortlisted for their efforts.
