A Fixby care worker is hoping a string of endurance challenges will help him smash a £4,000 target for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.

And Gareth Clay is on the look out for local businesses to sponsor his challenge T-shirt and give him extra motivation.

The first challenge will see him getting in the saddle later this month for a 27-mile bike ride, followed by a leap of faith with a parachute jump in June.

He will then keep his feet firmly on solid ground while taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks.

The final push will be the Tough Mudder endurance obstacle course in August.

Gareth, 29, who works at the Forget Me Not Hospice, has already been backed with a charity rugby shirt supported by Huddersfield Giants players Luke Robinson, Jermaine McGillivray and Leroy Cudjoe.

But he now needs further support for the challenge T-shirt which has already been supported by Ben Calvert at Credit Resource Solutions.

Gareth previously worked in the army for the Royal Engineers for six years in construction, serving in Iraq and Kenya as well as the UK. After leaving the army, he gained his first role within care, securing a job as a residential care worker, before joining the Forget Me Not team.

Gareth said: “Because of my job I have been fortunate enough to see first-hand what a difference fundraising can make to the children and families at Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, and although I know this challenge will be extremely tough, it is the children and their families who will inspire me to get through it!”

Fellow care team members at the hospice, Gemma Clegg and Lauren Burton are also doing the skydive and the Three Peaks. To show your support visit his Virgin Money Giving page www.virginmoneygiving.com/garethclay or text “CLAY14 £5” to 70070.
