WORK has begun on preparations for Honley Male Voice Choir’s 75th anniversary in 2011.
And the landmark year in the history of the acclaimed choir will be marked by a series of events.
The number 75 has special significance for the choir, which has launched a membership drive with the aim of increasing the strength of the choir to 75 by 2011.
This month the choir will be celebrating the 75th birthday of its popular organist and deputy accompanist George Marsden, who was born on St. Valentine’s Day in 1935 and has been playing the organ for 60 years.
The choir will be singing at a Songs of Praise organised by George on Sunday, February 21 at 3pm at Salendine Nook Baptist Church – one of the local churches where he plays for services every Sunday.
