SHOPPERS braved the rain, traffic queues and endless Christmas tunes in shops to get those last minute presents and Christmas dinner.

The weekend wasn’t a total washout, indoor shopping centres, such as Kingsgate Centre, were bustling as shoppers did their best to escape a distinctly un-festive drenching. And up to 120,000 shoppers headed to Meadowhall to escape the rain.

As a nation it’s predicted we spent £5billion over the weekend gearing up for the big day – that’s a lot of Christmas pudding!

However, not everyone will be able to spend the day getting merry with family and friends.

There are some people working to make sure we can have a safe Christmas – Blue Watch at Huddersfield Fire Station will be there if things go very wrong in the kitchen, doctors will be at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary’s Accident and Emergency for those who fall ill or get injured. And the police will be on hand in case trouble flares.

There’s also the likes of taxi drivers, pub landlords and the team up at Emley TV mast who will make sure we don’t miss our favourite festive TV.

Happy Christmas to everyone.
