AN ‘Aladdin’s Cave’ of a shop has won a customer service award.
Clayton West Village Store was presented with the My Shop Is Your Shop Gold Award for community retailing by local MP Simon Reevell.
The awards are being handed out by the Federation of Wholesale Distributors in a bid to highlight the role independent shops play for their communities.
The village shop sells everything from shoe laces to sand paper with all the usual sweets and papers in between.
It also offers services to local people including gift wrapping, parcel collection and food delivery.
It also makes use of local suppliers and tradesmen and gets involved with local clubs for fundraising and charity events.
Shopkeeper Josephine Hall, said: “We bought the shop in 1997 and it was very rundown and out of date with hardly any stock in it.
“We have built it up and customers call it Aladdin’s cave or Blackpool shop because we sell everything.
“Since opening we have always asked the customer if there is anything they wanted that we haven’t got then we get it next day!
“We have customers coming in and testing us, saying, “I bet you don’t have this” but it's not often we fail.
“I am very keen on customer service and I make sure all our staff focus on one customer at a time, be polite and courteous and always pack their bags for them.
“Even if we are busy we never rush the customer.
“Without them we wouldn’t have a shop.”
