VILLAGERS will celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by protecting their playing fields from development.
Cliff Rec in Holmfirth was last month entered in the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge, which aims to preserve 2,012 outdoor recreational spaces.
The Holme Valley green space has won the right to be renamed the Queen Elizabeth II Field after 387 people voted for it in an online poll.
Jane Hamilton, chairman of Friends of Cliff Rec, said: “We want to thank everyone who voted for us.
“Knowing that the rec will be kept special and open for leisure and recreation is a terrific early Christmas present.
“We had just three weeks to mobilise the voting. We took every opportunity to encourage everyone who values the local environment to vote for us.
“It was very satisfying to watch the votes mount up as the deadline approached,” Jane added.
