WHAT is happening at the once proud Huddersfield Technical College?

The scrapping of A-level courses, the scrapping of a chemistry course before students have had a chance to finish, industrial relations at an all time low: the situation is a disgrace.

Then we have the disgrace of the college on lockdown occupied by the police conducting drugs and weapons searches when there has never been a issue of either at the college.

Chris Sadler appears to be one of the new breed of not so much a principal but a manager ruling by decree irrespective of the wishes or advice of students and staff.

The board of governors appear to be his yes-men and women who have no idea what is happening on the ground.

The sooner the Tech comes back under local authority control the better. Sadler should be replaced the board of governors disbanded and replaced by a board of elected councillors, students, staff and community partners.

Let’s have some democracy and common sense at the helm of the college for once.
