Kirklees councillors are hoping for a can-can attitude from Colne Valley residents, who they want to join a dance workshop this autumn.
The Colne Valley Area Committee is funding the free three day training course on September 17, 24 and October 1 at Slaithwaite Town Hall for people who are passionate about encouraging adults and older people to be more active through dance.
Participants will learn the waltz, cha cha cha, quickstep and jive steps from ballroom and Latin American dance and learn to adapt the moves for circle dancing and seated activity so that they can get the whole valley dancing in the future.
They will also develop an understanding of the practical and therapeutic benefits of dance and learn how they can put on a tea dance for the people that they support.
Anyone who works, volunteers or cares for adults or older people in the Golcar and Colne Valley areas are welcome to attend and it will be particularly suitable for anyone helping those with long-term health conditions.
Councillor and chair of the Colne Valley area committee, Donna Bellamy, said: “Whether supporting adults and older people to learn a new skill, or to revisit fond memories, dance is a fun and enjoyable way to help people become more active. We are delighted to be able to offer this free training to benefit local residents.”
Resources and certificates will be issued at the end of the course, which will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
