A big-hearted voluntary lunch club has asked residents to come dine with them to help continue to provide a much needed service to the village’s elderly.

Marsden Meet and Eat is on the lookout for new volunteers to help out at its weekly event, after the departure of several key members. Held every Wednesday from 10.30am to 1.30pm at The United Church in Peel Street, the team provide a two course hot meal and entertainment as well as a large helping of good-humoured company to 25 people who may otherwise be isolated.

Founder Lindsay Haycock said that anyone who could spare some time is welcome to attend a public meeting tomorrow at the church where they will discuss the future of the club, which has been running since 2012. She said: “We want as many people as possible to join us, whether they have a specific skill or can help by pouring tea and having a chat with the club members. We have formed a really nice community through the group and want to ensure that this can continue

“It’s a service that makes a difference to the lives of those who come to it not just because it allows them to have a hot meal but because of the social opportunity it provides.”
