BIRDSEDGE

The church service at Hade Edge Band room last Sunday went very well, as did the whole weekend with 2 Valleys Radio.

Brian Kay took this Sunday’s service, showing the children a first aid kit and a survival kit. The first aid kit was to keep in the car and had the usual bandages and plasters in. The survival kit consisted of little bags with odd small things in, such as a button or a paper clip. Each bag had a bible quote to match the item. The reading was Mark 2 verses 1-12 – ‘Jesus heals the paralytic’. He concentrated on 3 Ds: Desperation, Determination and Declaration to describe the friends that carried the man and Jesus saying to him, “Son, your sins are forgiven”. We have to try new ideas to get more people to know Jesus. The Communion service next week will be taken by Tony Hudson.

At a busy village hall night with 52 quizzers, the 3 Degrees were again winners. The next quiz will be held on Friday July 26.

The Lunch Club on July 11 noon-1pm will be serving cottage pie and vegetables followed by Bakewell tart.

A Festival meeting will be held in the hall bar tomorrow, Wednesday at 8pm.

The 44th consecutive annual event Gala, Fete and now Festival, will be held on July 13, from noon to 5pm. The Real Ale Night will start at 7pm in the marquee. Music providers are 2 Beer Limit, White Wolves, Alex Quinn and the Man In The Street, Undiscovered and Detox – all local. Both events have free entry due to sponsorship from Our Big Gig. Bookings for stalls are still being taken.
