Paul Hinchcliffe took the church service with his son Adam on the computer. He told the young people the story of The Widows Mite. Our giving should come from the heart and be a personal thing, not showy, he said. Later he spoke about the Parable of the Lost Son, Luke 15 verses 11-31. God always welcomes us back no matter how often we drift away from him. He always loves us. The service next week will be the communion service.

CLAYTON WEST

Churches Together in Clayton West, Scissett, High Hoyland met for a joint service of worship held at the Methodist Church in Clayton West. This was led by the minister Rev David Priestnall, and was an informal service of family worship. The theme was based on the twenty third psalm 'The Lord is my Shepherd'. Leading our thoughts on Gods' love and care for us in every part of our lives the congregation were asked to illustrate their thoughts, and groups joined together to draw aspects of the psalm, these were then placed at the front of the church for all to see. Jane Hobson was pianist, and flowers for the communion table were a gift from Josie Jebson. Stewards were Diana Hunt and Joan Bond. Wendy Barber read a version of the twenty third psalm.

After the service everyone enjoyed meeting friends over coffee and biscuits served by Wendy Barber and Beryl Holt. A United Service takes place when there is a fifth Sunday in the month. The Anglican Churches and the United Reformed Church also host the service in turn.

EMLEY

Sunday service at St Michael The Archangel was a joint service at St James’ Flockton, looking at Jesus the Good Shepherd. The Beatles’ song Eleanor Rigby and a Lowry picture were used to invite us to consider loneliness and to re-evaluate our own roles in helping others develop a sense of belonging and being aware of the “white space” which separates individuals in a crowd.

The Fashion Show last Friday sponsored by Almond Fashions of Kirkburton, with live models and a wide range of fashions and accessories was a huge success, thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended. It is hoped to repeat the event in the autumn with autumn/winter fashions and a special showing of the male fashions from Almond for Men. Watch this space! The event raised £676.80 for church funds. Thanks to all who helped and to all who came.

The next event is a Singathon on May 26 between 2 and 5 pm – giving a chance to drop in and sponsor your favourite sacred song or hymn, singing along with organ, singers and backing tracks, whilst enjoying a cuppa or just listening to other people’s choices.

The services on Sunday are All-Age Worship service at 10.45am and a 6pm Holy Communion Service. Everyone welcome.
