I MUST congratulate the wise decision to scrap the voucher parking scheme for parts of Holmfirth.

Instead of voucher parking schemes I would suggest the Kirklees councillors and highways officers should devote quite a lot of time and effort to ensure that all the signs/lines within Holmfirth are made to conform to the legislation and regulations that these signs/lines require to be lawfully erect.

I have seen non compliant parking bays and single yellow lines which have no basis in law as someone has forgotten to enumerate the parking hours restriction on a plate at the side of those yellow lines. These defects were in Holmfirth Town Centre.

Not only are there major defects in signs/lines in the Holmfirth area, my observations lead me to conclude that signs/lines leave a lot to be desired through all of the Kirklees Council Area.

If Kirklees Council can’t get a simple thing like getting signs/lines correct I dread to think what a mess the voucher (disc) parking saga would have turned out to be.
