A WOODTURNING group will use a donation to help people with disabilities try their hand at the craft.

Birstall Woodturning Club is based in Mirfield and members work with various community groups in their well-equipped workshop.

The group has just received £2,500 from the Mirfield-based Kirklees Freemasons.

The money will be used to fund a specialist lathe that can be used by disabled people.

Freemason Ray Townley said: “It means that someone in a wheelchair can use it while still sitting.

“The group does a lot of work with Help for Heroes and this equipment will help them as some of them can’t stand for long because of their prosthetic limbs.”

The club also works with community groups, including the Scouts, taking them through one of the Duke of Edinburgh modules.
