When is a road closed? When the police and Kirklees Council’s Highways Department put signs up saying "ROAD CLOSED" during recent snows on roads leading up to Holme Moss and Greenfield Road they were impassable hense the signs. But there are still some motorists willing to put their lives at risk and damage to their motor vehicles just to have a look. When they get stuck, they will expect some one to rescue them, which is usually the police or moorland rescue. If they don't call the emergency services then they usually abandon their vehicles which then causes problems for the gritters to get past, delaying the opening of the roads. Please obey the signs they are there for a reason. The police will be prosecuting motorists who fail to comply. A number of motorists have already been given penalty notices. It's just not worth it.
