Bogus OfficialsAn elderly lady became a victim of a distraction burglary when a man who claimed to be from the gas board kept her talking in the garden while another male burgled her property. Bogus officials may be smartly dressed and claim to be from the council, gas board, health authority or other organisations. Their real reason is to talk their way into your home to see what they can steal. Always ask for identification as it should also have their photograph on it before letting anyone into your home and if in doubt ask for a telephone number to call to double check. Make sure chain is on your door.
